Yes, in this fast paced world it has become necessary to once again point out what should be obvious. We have over time drifted away from vital principles. Throughout our history as a nation great men have been in agreement as to the essentials which make and maintain the greatness of our beloved country. I speak not of the ignorant who accomplish little in this life, but of men who achieve greatness by intelligence, courage and a strong faith in Almighty God. These men lead by example. Their success should signal the common man to follow their example.

None of the quotations I’ve used describe the overall theme of my articles better than these. They capture the essence of my view superbly:

Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964) the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in the Pacific during WWII, was celebrated for having liberated the Philippine Islands and receiving the surrender of Japanese forces in Tokyo Bay on the USS Missouri, September 3, 1945. A five star General and the Commander of the UN forces during the Korean War, General of the Armies MacArthur stated:

“History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline, There has been either a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster.”

One of Douglas MacArthur’s prayers: “Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to face himself when he is afraid, one who will be proud and unbending in defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.”

Note: Having been promoted to Brigadier General in the First World War (1918), by WWII he was the ranking Flag Officer in the world.

Theodore Roosevelt (pronounced Rose-velt) (1858-1919), 26^th President of the United States, was a soldier, author and Nobel Prize winner for his part in ending the Russo-Japanese War (1906) stated emphatically:

“There can be no compromise in the fight for Americanism. I am confident that our people will work hand in hand with any public man who will in good faith do all that is possible to see that the United States so conducts herself as to conserve as a nation the honor and the institutions and the peaceful welfare of her own citizens. Our next business will be to help guarantee the peace of justice to the world at large. There cannot and must not be the repetition of the crime against themselves and brutality.

I shall stand against wrong doing by any foreign power. The little nations of the earth have a right to live, and if civilization is to endure the great nations must respect that right. Let us unite in one great endeavor to keep an enduring peace in the world. But, let us not forget that the surest protection lies in our preparedness to meet all eventualities from without and combat and destroy all subversive elements working from within. In 16 weeks I have received over 4800 wonderful comments on my 34 blogs at http://moneyonlinemadeeasy.com. Please keep in mind that I am alone in this effort and no technicrat. I am unable to answer technical questions even if I knew the answer. I will do my best to answer question pertaining to the subject if you will site the title of the blog page to which you refer. We are going too fast! Part of our population is running so fast it’s leaving the rest behind. Ambition, greed and materialism seem to rule over a discouraged lower class that can’t keep up because of despair, loss of hope and minimum wage blues. Our education system has failed to inspire our youth to excellence. Corporate greed is killing the middle class. It’s the old army game—up or out. I loved to command a company of men. I thought it was the best job in the army and there were many who would agree with me and would rather continue in that capacity until retirement. And many NCOs would rather serve under an experienced Company Commander than a young shave tail ready to bust an NCO on a whim without regard to his wife and kids. Not all of us have equal talent. Place a man or woman in a position which best utilizes their capabilities. They will be happier and their performance will please their employer.

Our economic system is driven by profit and that’s called free enterprise and that’s good until management gouges employees to improve the bottom line. Cutting jobs to cut costs should not be an option. Job security, company loyalty and morale all suffer at the fast pace we are moving. The Japanese took advantage of a weakness in our system: planned obsolescence. They put the TV repair man out of work by building quality sets that lasted and took over the market. Cars were next. Our programmed wear out of cars and lack of fuel efficiency cost us a large share of the market. It has taken us years to see the light and bring quality up to the Japanese and European standard. It wasn’t until the old CEOs died out that new blood made the changes needed. Europe could have beaten the Japanese to the punch if it hadn’t been for their high prices. The Japanese gave us quality and low price. Now the Koreans and Chinese are giving Japan competition. A few years ago the prevailing attitude of one American car company was reflected in their Chairman’s statement to their board of directors: “We don’t make cars, we make money!” This certainly showed contempt for the consumer.

I said all this to make a point; quality in goods, relationships and life in general takes time and, for our physical and mental health requires a slower pace. God told us, “Be still and know that I am God.” But no; in our race for more stuff and more money we have put our wives and mothers, a full time job in itself, to work so we can have the stuff we covet right now. We have no patience. If we can’t have it now we steal it or sell drugs to get it. Our kids suffer the consequences of parents too tired at the end of a hard day’s work to care. We have let day care raise our children. It has for some been convenient to abort a pregnancy so they don’t have to be bothered rearing children. Family values have deteriorated to selfish, personal and artificial values because of the unnatural fast pace we have set for ourselves. Speed and aggressiveness has become the norm.

Money, it has erroneously been said, is the root of all evil; no, the love of money is evil and there are business men and women obsessed with it. Trying to excuse unfair and dishonest practices they say, “That’s business.” Just as God’s law was meant to protect us, so also the highway engineer set a speed limit for our safety. The word limit doesn’t seem to be understood by many drivers. Webster defines the word limit thus: The point where something ends, bounds, the greatest amount allowed—to set a limit to; restrict. But drivers today can’t read a simple sign posting a limit and drive at any speed they wish and while breaking the law are filled with road rage at the driver who, obeying the law, has set his cruise control on the speed limit. It doesn’t seem to matter that the difference in fuel consumption between 70mph and 60mph at today’s prices at the pump is about 34 cents a gallon. I know that pushing the speed limit isn’t anything new, but leaving it behind is dangerous.

Our labor unions have priced us out of a manufacturing economy and into a service economy and forced us to rely on foreign imports for manufactured goods. We have made China rich. In the next 4 years their super highway system miles will exceed our interstate system and transportation is the key to rapid growth.

All this indicates our state of mind; rush-rush, get it done now! In an emergency, yes, but as a normal state of affairs it is deadly for the individual and the nation because it leads to double dealing and cut throat takeovers without a thought of the human factors. Tension and stress are killers. We are commanded by God to love our neighbor and he is anyone with whom we deal or have a relationship. The mood of the average citizen is nearing the boiling point. Take the heat off. Slow down and listen. Slow down and think quality and be concerned with the human factors in our employee relationship. Slow down and let God be God.

When asked my young friend replied, “I don’t have faith in anything.” And I said, “Sure you do.” And he said, “No I don’t.” Well, I’ll tell you what I told him.

First, what is faith? It is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Let me illustrate. A man is grabbing breakfast while arguing with his wife and telling his kids to shut up, while thinking, when I come home I’ll ask for a divorce. On the way out of the house he kicks the family dog, then jumps into the car and lays rubber leaving the driveway. While driving to work he encounters three idiots and two morons. He arrives at the airport and reports in, files his flight plan and heads for his 747 muttering under his breath. As it turns out he is the pilot of your airliner. Now, not knowing any of the above you settle into seat 12F with complete faith that the pilot will get you safely to your destination.

A woman who didn’t know anything about the inner workings of an automobile has faith that the second she turns the key the complicated machine will come to life and away she will go. Now she’s on a two lane roadway with a 40mph speed limit and has faith that the car barreling toward her will miss her by 4 feet. When she passes an 18 wheeler and cuts in front of him too closely she has faith that his brakes are good enough to stop short if need be. By some miracle she arrives home in one piece and has faith when she presses the on button on her remote the garage door will open, another remote will turn on the TV, she flips the bathroom switch having faith the light will go on and then she turns on the bath water having faith it will be hot. Well I think I’ve made my point. Each day we exercise our faith.

The Bible tells us if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you can say to that mountain, “Move!” and the mountain will move. What is your mountain? In 1963 I was 33 and had a 2 pack a day habit. Smoking was my mountain. I had read the Surgeon General’s report and I wanted to quit but how was I to break the grip of nicotine? Then one evening I was thumbing through my wife’s copy of The Ladies Home Journal and found an article that seemed to answer my question. It told of a group of folks from all walks of life who met on Tuesday nights just to discuss smoking. Everyone had their story; some very familiar to me. But what stopped me in my tracks was a statement by a doctor in attendance. He said that after three days without a cigarette the body gives up its demand for nicotine. So, it’s no longer a physiological problem; it has now become a mental habit and I must replace a habit with a habit. Daily circumstances trigger the desire to light up: when you awaken in the morning, after that first cup of coffee, when faced with a problem, turning on the TV, after making love, seeing someone else light up or at a cocktail party. Whatever your trigger hold off the  impulse by doing something else with your hands and mind. It works because it is now a mental process and no one wants to think of themselves as weak willed. You see, I put my faith in the doctor’s statement and I moved my mountain.

Jesus told us to have the faith of a little child. The thought reminds me of a mother who during a thunder storm was afraid for her little child. With lightning flashing she just knew her little girl was terrified so she dashed into her room and found her standing at the window. The child turn to her mother and said excitedly, “Mommy, God just took my picture!”

My faith was made complete by my recent tour of Isreal. It went like this: at each biblical site we visited our pastor read the Bible passage pertaining to that site and an archeologist  turned pastor due to his discoveries explained the evidence of the site. When we arrived at Caesaria  on the Mediterranean we found displayed a large marble slate uncovered by archeologists. It read in deeply carved Latin the summer home of Pontius Pilot (who ordered the crucifixion  Jesus). This was a 9 day tour which I heartily recommend. It will change your life. Security of tours is well conceived though not obvious. It is perfectly safe and accommodations are first class. Our Faith in the security was not misplaced. The fitting climax of the tour was my baptism in the Jordan River.

On the other hand I have no faith in the Big Bang theory of creation. The odds are just too long. It’s like an explosion in a junk yard and all the fragments falling to earth in the form of a flyable Boeing 747. No, there is a divine intelligence behind the creation of the universe. When you believe Genesis 1:1 you’ll have no trouble believing the rest of the Bible. When Darwin dreamed up his theory of evolution scientists of the time grabbed onto it like a bulldog and still cling to the outdated theory, yes it’s still an unproven theory not fact. Even Darwin himself retracted the theory late in his life. Science has wasted a lot of time and   money searching in vain for the missing link, even going so far as to manufacture bogus evidence. They have only succeeded in making   monkeys of themselves.

Many have tried to refute God’s Word only to become believers after careful research. With modern technology more and more archeological evidence has confirmed Holy Scripture. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Webster says faith is complete trust and reliance in God. Some believe mystics, astrologers, clairvoyants and even devil worship, so why is it so hard to have faith in Almighty God creator of the universe, especially when His Word makes so much sense in the chaotic world of small minded people. The highest I.Q. in the world is but a grain of sand on the ocean shore compared to God’s omniscience. I ask you to imagine, although I know you can’t, God is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He sees all of history and all things to come at a moment in time. He is all knowing, all powerful and ever present. He dwells in the supernatural whereas we live in the natural. Knowing that, we, like my friend,  have taken the step of faith and invited the Holy Spirit, the helper Jesus promised, into our heart, mind and soul. Our slate is clean. We are forgiven of our sins past, present and future. Does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! But we will sin less and less in our quest for perfection. God knows we won’t achieve perfection in this world, but we must enjoy trying. Once you know your Bible it becomes a magnificent obsession.

Doctor Peter Marshall (1909-1949), Chaplain of the United States Senate, emigrated from Scotland in 1927 and was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1931. On January 13, 1947, as Chaplain of the U. S. Senate he spoke these words to Americans:

“The choice before us is plain: Christ or chaos, conviction or compromise, discipline or disintegration. I am rather tired of hearing about the rights and privileges as American citizens. The time is come—it is now—when we ought to hear about the duties and responsibilities of our citizenship. America’s future depends upon her accepting and demonstrating God’s government.”

On the first Sunday in December, 1941, Dr. Marshall was to be guest speaker at the United State Naval Academy. On arrival at Annapolis, seeing the activity on the academy grounds, he felt that the sermon he had prepared was not appropriate somehow. The Academy Chaplain told him to just speak from the heart and the Holy Spirit would guide him.  As he took the podium and looked out over the audience of fine young Midshipmen he told the story told to him by a mother in his congregation. Her little boy had an incurable disease and as time passed it just got worse. One evening she was reading the tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table ending in the climactic battle in which so many brave Knights died. Then her boy asked, Mommy, what’s it like to die? Without a word she walked away from the boy  fighting back the tears as she entered the kitchen. She knew the question had to be answered there and then. She prayed for a way to answer his question. In a moment she returned to the boy and said, “Donnie, do you remember when you were younger you played hard all day and you were so tired that you would fall asleep on mommy’s bed? Daddy with his strong arms would pick you up and put you in bed in your own bedroom and when you awakened the next morning you wondered how you got into you own room. Well dying is like that; you fall asleep in one room and our loving God picks you up and puts you in another room”. With war clouds on the horizon that was just the message the young would be officers needed to hear. Leaving the academy he offered a young Ensign on leave a ride to the train station. As they drove, a musical program was interrupted by a special bulletin: the Japanese had just attacked our naval base at Pearl Harbor. Dr. Marshall had heard the voice of the Holy Spirit and now he knew why.

At church last Sunday my Pastor spoke briefly about death when he said, “Death is the anesthesia God uses when He takes you from you earthly body and puts you in your heavenly body.”

We as Christians don’t fear death, we do fear pain, so we hope we will die peacefully in our sleep. As Queen Victoria said, “I so look forward to placing my crown at the feet of Jesus.” Who wouldn’t want to leave this world behind and take up residence in Paradise where there is no sickness, no crying, no darkness, no worries and only joy for all eternity.

An epitaph I read said, “Barbara doesn’t live here anymore: forwarding address, Paradise.”

Children, before the age of reason, will go to heaven. Those who should fear death are those who think there are other ways to heaven than by Jesus; they have sentenced themselves to an eternity in torment. Don’t procrastinate, decide now to take Jesus into your heart and begin storing your treasure in heaven. Compared to eternity this life is a pop quiz.

My Weight Loss Crusade

Hello. I’m Colonel Don Wilson of the Army, Retired and a seasoned youth of 79. 9.  They’re on the wrong diet for their needs. Diets should be targeted to their particular health problem such diabetes, heart support, or arthritis.

10. They’re handicapped by a negative attitude. For these failure is usually predetermined.  A strong commitment to an easy series of clear goals is the key.
